N-Power 2017: Getting Prepared for N-Power Physical Verification

As the N-Power 2017 assessment test officially ends today 31th August 2017, it is important we pass this information on what the applicants should do why waiting for the test result. It's true that as the result is not yet out one can not tell whether he / she is in or out, however, it is better to have faith and be prepared than to be called up suddenly and you start running up and down looking for documents here and there. Hence the need for this article to tell you what is expected from you during physical verification so you can start putting them together now and avoid "fire brigade approach" which is never the best.

Please note that this is for only those who have successfully written their N-Power 2017 assessment test.

By now you should be aware that after the test comes pre-selection then followed by physical verification, which is the apex of the N-Power scheme.

The physical verification simply means that you would be invited to N-Power chosen center to meet with the N-Power officials face to face so that they will go through your original documents and your online registration information to confirm that you are real and that the information you provided are truly yours. However, you must have been selected and officially invited for physical verification before you are permitted to attend.

So to smoothly and easily pass your physical verification, you must keep the following documents ready, authentic and original. Be reminded that thousands of applicants will be dropped at this stage and that simply means that no excuses will be accepted. The documents are:

  • Your Degree Cert : NCE, OND, HND, B.Sc, B.A, B.Eng, B.Ed etc.
  • Your Birth Certificate: Age declaration from court may not be accepted as applicants can go to court to reduce their age. Though the officials may collect it but that might be the end of your N-Power journey as they will not value it. So we advice you to get your Birth Certificate ready and not age declaration.
  • Your NYSC discharge or exemption letter: for those that applied with university degree (B.Sc, B. Eng etc) and HND. Note that if you applied with the these degrees without NYSC certificate, you are automatically disqualified because it is one of the criteria for application. So get your NYSC certificate ready. NCE and OND applicants are exempted from this.
  • First School Leaving Certificate.
  • A valid Identity Card: you must have a valid means of identification to identify yourself before the officials. National ID, Voters Card, Drivers License has always been the nationally acceptable means of identification.
  • Bank print out with your BVN and the account used during registration.
  • Online print out of the place where your name was Pre-Selected.
  • Passport photographs

Now you have the knowledge of what the physical verification will be like and what is expected from you, its time you start putting things together to avoid rush. Make sure to have both the original and photocopies of all these documents as you will be required to present both. Wish You Success!

Simple And Unique Ways to Find Jobs

Whether you are currently without a job or if you would just like to find a new job, one that pays better or one that you actually enjoy doing each and every day, you may be wondering how you can go about finding new job openings. When it comes to finding job listings, which outline open positions, you will find that you have a number of different options.  Some of which are quite obvious, like using online career or job hunting websites or the employment section of a newspaper. However, there are other options that are very simple and fairly unique, but effective.

One unique and easy way that you can go about finding information on available jobs is by speaking to people you know. Word of mouth is a great way to find jobs that you may be qualified for; jobs that you would want to apply for.  What is amazing about this approach is those that you know, whether they are your friends, family members, or neighbors, may not even be looking for a job themselves.  They may have just come across a now hiring sign or happen to see an advertisement in their newspaper’s employment section.  It may seem weird when you think about it, but those who aren’t actually looking for jobs are usually the best sources of information when it comes to finding a job.

Another unique way that you can go about finding a job is by working with a buddy or a partner.  If you know of anyone, like a family member or friend, who is also in need of a job, you and that person may want to think about teaming up.  For instance, you could search for job listings online and your partner could search for job listings in local newspapers.  This approach is nice because it allows you to save time, when searching for job listings.  Yes, you may end up receiving a little bit of competition from your job hunting buddy, but the amount of time that you are able to save will likely be well worth it in the end.  Also, depending on where you live, you may be able to find hundreds of available job listings; therefore, the chances of both you and your job hunting buddy finding a job are actually quite high.

Another unique way that you can go about finding jobs is by using the internet to your advantage, namely online message boards.  Online message boards, as you likely already know, are online forums where internet users can interact with each other.  Although many internet users use online message boards for recreational purposes, there are others who use them for business purposes, like with assistance with finding a job. In most cases, online message boards are great ways to learn about work-at-home opportunities or nationally operated companies that may have a local branch near you.  It is not uncommon for a current company employee to mention that their company is hiring or just outline the fact that they enjoy working for the company in question.  If you happen to comes across these types of discussions, you may want to prod for more information or at least do your own investigation of the company in question.

Another approach that you may want to take isn’t necessarily considered unique, but it isn’t as common as you would think.  Many businesses, even those that are locally owned and operated, now have online websites.  Many businesses have a webpage that is devoted to employment. That employment page may outline whether or not the company in question is currently hiring.  If they are, information on what positions are available or how you can apply may also be touched on.  If you don’t already know the online websites of your local employers or ones that you would be interested in working for, you can easily find them, if they do exist, by performing a standard internet search.

The above mentioned approaches are just a few of the many unique or less common ways that you can go about finding a job.  With the above mentioned approaches, combined with online career hunting or job hunting websites, career counseling centers, career fairs, and your newspaper’s employment sections, you are sure to find a handful of job listings; job listings that you may want to apply for.

4 Major Types of Conventional Resume Formats

What are the Different Types of Conventional Resume Formats?

This article defines the significance of a resume and provides details on different generally accepted resume format and types

When it comes to applying for jobs, your resume is the first chance that you have to make a first impression. This document can be considered as your proxy in the corporate world. That is to say that resume is your advertisement. As such, it’s important to decide which type of "ad″  ̶  in this case, resume format  ̶  you will use in your job application. However, when deciding which type of resume to use, you have to think about your personal circumstances.

In addition, depending on the type of job you are applying to, there are several basic types of resumes you can use to apply for job openings. Each resume type is useful for different purposes because not all resumes are befitting the requirements of all professions.

Also since no two persons have the exact same background of experience, skills and education, no two resumes are exactly alike. To this end, there are generally four main types of resume templates that you can use to show your qualifications and apply to job openings. The four standard types of resumes include

1. Functional,                 2. Chronological,
3. Combination, and      4. Targeted.

Below is detailed information on each type of resume, including when to use each.

1. Functional Resume
Functional resume focuses on your skills rather than your work history. Instead of having a “work history” section at the top of your resume, you should have a section that lists various skills that you have developed over the years. These skills should be targeted to the job you are applying for. Employment history is secondary, and might not be included at all or might be listed concisely under the details of your skills.

A functional resume also helps you highlight your achievements in a better understood manner if you have worked in several companies in the same position. This type of resume is a great way to focus on the skills that you have that would help to distinguish you from the other applicants.

When to use: You may want to choose the functional resume if you are changing careers to a field very different from your previous experience or you have large gaps in your work history. This is also a good type of resume to use for first time job hunters (new graduate). It is also useful if you are new to the workforce and have limited work experience or have a diverse background with no clear career path

2. Chronological Resume
A chronological resume is a resume which starts by listing your work history, with the most recent position listed first and continuing in reverse order to the earliest. Employers typically prefer this type of resume because it provides a quick snapshot of work history and accomplishments, with most recent positions up front. A chronological resume is the most common type of resume that people use.

This resume format is good for demonstrating growth in a single profession. To give potential employers a sense of the kind of work you have done in the past and what you are capable of doing, key accomplishments and qualifications are included in each position listed.

When to use: If you have a strong and solid work history, your experience is in line with the job you are applying to, and you have no lapses between employments, use this format. Chronological resumes benefit people who have progressed in their professional life. If you are just starting your career (just out of school), or if you are changing career fields, you should consider a different resume type.

3. Combination Resume
The combination resume is also called hybrid resume. Combination or hybrid resume lets you detail both your skills and experience, while also backing it up with your work history. In other words, the combination resume is actually a good a combination of the best parts of a functional resume and a chronological resume. This type of resume lists your skills and experiences first at the top. The next part to this resume is a list of your work history in reverse chronological order.

However, the work history is not the focus of the resume, and typically does not take up much space on the resume. This type of resume allows you to highlight the skills you have that are relevant to the job you are applying for (what makes you the best fit for the job), and also provide your chronological work history. Combination resume helps you to give the employer all the information he or she wants.

When to use: It is recommended for mid-career changers and recent graduates. Also if you want to detail work experience to show hiring managers the type of employee you are.

4. Targeted Resume
A targeted resume is a resume customized to specifically showcase the skills and experience you have that are relevant to the position you are applying for. Everything from your objective, your qualifications to educational experience mirrors the job requirements.  This resume is the most difficult type to use because you need to update it or change the skills that you focus on for each individual job that you apply for.

It is the most time-consuming and it definitely takes more work than just applying with your existing resume. However, it's well worth the effort, especially when applying for job that is a perfect match for your qualifications and experience.

When to use: If the jobs perfectly match your experience and qualifications. However, you have to be careful when developing a targeted resume, you need to be as accurate as possible and not to embellish career highlights simply to reflect the job.

Wrapping Up
A great resume will get you to the top of the applicant pile. But the first step that you need to take is to choose the type of resume you will write for yourself that will best fit the job you are applying to. It is good that you now know that all resumes are not the same basic template. Thus, you can now begin to write your job winning resume. To Your Success!

N-Power Device Delivery Update

Many questions have been asked about the N-powet devices, some of the applicants/beneficiaries expressed their joy, while others have just been rude and totally negative. And for this reason N-Power has come out to clear the air stating the following;

The Federal Government of Nigeria entered into an Asset Finance Agreement with the Bank of Industry to provide devices. There are 8 vendors preapproved by the Bank of Industry to deliver those devices. This simply means that all beneficiaries will each get a device to work with when deployed.

Some of the vendors have delivered their devices, while some other vendors are yet to deliver.

However, some of the vendors that have delivered have delivered just a percentage and will be delivering the remaining shortly.

And for the devices that have been delivered, a team is currently pre-loading each device with over one million resources which includes videos, textbooks and so much more.

Also the Network provider that will be giving the free one year internet will also take a stab at the devices.

In other words, all parties are working assiduously to ensure that the devices get into your hands in the shortest time possible. Therefore, no one is trying to stop the devices from getting into your hands.

So Just be patient for it is working together for YOU!

NOTE: this Device Delivery Update is for those who selected devices before March 27th, 2017.

N-Tax Update: Selection Criteria

Important info to all N-tax applicants, please read carefully
Vaids/N-Tax Update, Interview Process And Selection Criteria

N-Power commenced the 2017 Application on the 13th of June, 2017. N-Power Tax, a new category, was introduced to engage Volunteers enlisted via the N-Power application process as Community Liaison Tax Officers under the Voluntary Asset and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS). VAIDS is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Finance (FMF) and the Joint Tax Board that encourages non-compliant taxpayers to voluntarily declare their correct income and assets and pay the appropriate tax, as well as, widen the tax net.

The VAIDS programme seeks to select 7,500 qualified N-Tax Volunteers who will undertake tax promotion, document review, record keeping, tax enquiries response, customer management, report writing, amongst others. On the 29th of June, 2017, the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, issued an Executive Order instituting VAIDS. VAIDS has a lifespan of 9 months commencing on the 1st of July, 2017.
As a result, the VAIDS N-Tax category will operate an expedited selection process separate from the General N-Power programme, N-Teach, N-Agro and N-Health. This would be facilitated directly by the Federal Ministry of Finance-VAIDS team.
In connection with this, all applicants are invited to note:
: • First, the 2- week extension of the N-Power application did not apply to VAIDS N-Tax. As of the 14th of July, application for VAIDS N-Tax closed with 229,245 applications. Only 186,904 applicants had their BVN and applications records matched and validated, as such were invited for the assessment tests.
• Secondly, the next phase is that of VAIDS N-Tax Physical Interviews to be conducted by the Federal Ministry of Finance VAIDS team across Nigeria. This process has since commenced by the published schedule from the Federal Ministry Finance VAIDS team. A physical verification of applicants will also be undertaken during this phase.
. • Those successful at this round will progress to the next phase of Assessment Interviews (in batches) which will hold, according to the Federal Ministry of Finance VAIDS team, at the Treasury Academy, Orozo, Abuja. Again, the Federal Ministry of Finance VAIDS team will contact successful applicants and invite them for this stage of interviews. This would culminate with a written assessment test.
The final stage is that of Selection and Deployment.

For ease of reference, please note the VAIDS/ N- TAX selection process:
1. Application
2. BVN Validation
3. Test
4. Physical Interview in States and Physical Verification
5. Assessment Interview
6. Final Selection
7. Deployment
N-Power is the Registration/Application Partner for VAIDS/N-TAX. As the Recruitment Partner for the process, N-Power was responsible for Process 1-3 ONLY.

The Ministry of Finance/VAIDS team will lead on the implementation of Process 4-7.
Kindly note that having completed processes 1-3, N-Power is NOT involved in the implementation of processes 4-7 and has handed over the entire exercise to Federal Ministry of Finance (FMF) VAIDS/N-TAX.

N-TAX applicants may now direct their complaints and inquiries to the Federal Ministry of Finance (FMF) VAIDS/N-TAX channels, as provided below:
